There has been growing media narrative relating to peer on peer abuse within educational establishments linked to the social media campaign- #everyonesinvited. The latter was founded by Soma Sara as a movement to highlight the issue of rape culture amongst young men. The movement has been promoted through the online app Instagram and has attracted 33,000 followers and encourages individuals to share testimony about their experience. Over 6000 have done so and the numbers are growing on a daily basis. Many of the accounts describe the commission of serious sexual offences.
The website linked to #everyonesinvited, has been posting anonymous individual testimonials of sexual abuse and rape that are related to schools and universities.
There has been a significant increase in the number of younger callers to support agencies which is indicative of the campaign gathering pace.
A helpline has been put in place and will be run by the NSPCC to support potential victims and provide advice to children and adults alike.
